A new approach for regulating bisphenol A for the protection of the public's health.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical agent used in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastic products, including water bottles, and as a coating for dental sealants, food/beverage containers, and canned food linings. Exposure to BPA has been linked to such negative health effects as obesity and heart disease. Concerns for the effects of BPA are greatest on infants and young children due to their immature systems of detoxifying chemicals out of their bodies. Current BPA regulations do not reach far enough. More aggressive regulatory action is needed to protect the public's health, and especially the health of vulnerable fetuses, infants, and children.
